Blog 4: Week of 12/05/21
It’s December! That means I have about one month before I move to New York. That’s pretty crazy. This past week was pretty packed full. It was a good week looking back at it, a lot happened which I always like. Well, do I always like that? I think I am changing as a person. I used to do a ton and run around trying to fit everything into my schedule, but now I do like two things a day. If I do more than one thing in a day I’m impressed with myself. I should try to get back to the way I used to be.
Anyway, let’s talk about the week I had. Monday I filmed the last bit of Spaced that needed re-shot due to the cop shutting us down. It was quick and easy. We had about 5 shots to get, and we got them faster than I expected. I think we were all ready to get it done, so we did. On Tuesday I started writing the skit for Wednesday before realizing two things; it was the Chi Alpha Rally and it would be my final skit to write and direct at Woodway. This made me really sad because I truly do love my job. I do not believe I will ever have a job better than what I have right now with Woodway. I wrote a skit that was fine and all, but it wasn’t great. It was basically making the actors pretend to be really sad that I was gone and then I showed up and they were happy.
Wednesday came around and I started to learn La Vie En Rose on guitar. It’s not a terribly hard song to learn so I think I can do it easily if I just commit time to learning it. That night I directed my final skit. It did not go great. The crowd was rowdy and the actors forgot some good lines. It’s okay though. We went to Georges after as a staff and it was really fun. While we ate I convinced them to let me have one more skit before I leave, so next week will be my true final skit. I need to make it the best one yet. I have a plan for it. On Thursday I interviewed Bob for my History of Radio and Television class. It was a good interview, took an hour of talking. Throughout the day Dusty was in town at Common Grounds so I went a couple times to see how he was doing and to catch up. That night I played games with the Bean Brigade.
On Friday I had my first official interview with a company in New York. It was with DIGAStudios. I felt it went pretty well. They did say that it is a remote internship, so it’s not my first choice, but if it’s my only choice I would happily take it. The people interviewing me were easy to get along with and I was able to make them laugh a couple times so I think that’s good. I also put on a nice suit for it, of course I wore shorts instead of dress pants. When they asked if I had questions, I really didn’t. I should have questions prepared for my next interview to make me seem smarter. They did answer all my questions during the interview though. It kinda seemed like hey were selling me the internship rather than me selling myself. There were none of the “what’s your strengths” or “greatest weakness” questions. I don’t know! At this moment I have never interviewed for something I didn’t get. I hope to keep that streak alive. I’ve applied and not gotten, but every time I’ve reached the interview section I have gotten the job/position.
Saturday was another good day. Baylor was in the Big 12 Championship game. Gavin came down and watched with me. That was nice to actually have him around and to have another person actually engaged in the game with me. We won. It was quite the game. We completely destroyed them the first half and then our defense held them in the second half. The game came down to a 4th and goal on the 1 yard line. We held them 1st, 2nd, and 3rd from the 1. It was super tense. They ran the ball to the outside and it was between their running back and one of our defenders. We held them. We went crazy jumping and yelling. It was great. The rest of the day I worked on transcribing the Interview with Bob and playing games on my computer. Today is Sunday. It’s the last official 7:37 tonight. It’s a bitter sweet day. I know I will still see the guys and have unofficial 7:37s after this, but it’s crazy. But also today Hardin, Konrad, and Ivy came into town and we all went to the Mayborn Museum. It was good fun, there’s also some photos from it that might merit a Story. I need to work on those stories.
Okay, now I have to get going to 7:37. We have a leader meeting to start it so I have to get there a bit early. See ya later alligator!
