Blog 26: Week of 05/08/22

Happy Mothers day! Oh, also I am no longer in New York. Two big days at once, wow. So here is my final New York blog as basically the entire week was NY. I also spent the week pretty busy so there’s plenty to talk about in my final NY Blog.

To start my sister, Hardin, was in town. She was here for a bit last week so you might have already known this information. Anyway, I went to meet up with Hardin and Anna, but Hardin was not ready so Anna and I sat and waited. Eventually we got hungry so we went and got a lovely bagel. It was my first bagel in New York. I don’t know why it took so long for me to finally get a bagel, but it did. It was a very nice bagel, some would say “lovely”. We finally met up with Hardin and raced to Seth Meyers. It was a fun show and we tricked them to let us all sit together. We had two different sets of tickets each for two people, but the way they seat people is not putting groups that now each other together. So Hardin and I were a pair and Anna was on her own, but we snuck her into our group and hid her ticket so they couldn’t tell where she was grouped. After the show we went and looked at all the celebrities going to the Met Gala. And by “we” I mean Anna looked at the celebrities and Hardin and I sat back and laughed at people, very fun. I will say though, MY FEET HURT SO BAD. From the walk on Saturday and then walking all over on Monday I was in pain. Finally we left and got dinner at a Hot Pot place. Hot Pot is where you have a convection stove in front of you with a pot of water boiling. They then bring meat, vegetables, and noodles and you cook it for yourself in the flavored water. Very fun and really good. I finally ended the day and was tired.

Tuesday I met up with Hardin at the High Line, which is an old train track that has been converted into an outdoor walking park. It was so pretty and a fun little walk. After the walk I hugged Hardin and headed up town to get lunch with a Sigma Chi friend, Jack. We ate at Carnegie Diner and it was great weather for outdoor eating. I went home and watched Funny Games, which was not at all funny, pretty morbid actually. Also this was the day that I started to decide that I am going to get a dog soon. That night we had our final game night. We played Catan (Andy won), Bluffaneer (Corina won), and BEANS (I won). I left New York undefeated in BEANS, so I’m pretty proud about that.

Wednesday was filled with a lot of looking up information on dogs. I put together a list of ~20 dog types to do research on and put them all into an excel sheet for ease of access. This process included an hour long phone call with Hardin. That night was the final exam for my final class in College. It was an essay that we had to do in two hours and then we were done. It was tough and I would’ve rathered just taking a test, but oh well, I did it. I got a 95 on it. After the essay we all went to a karaoke bar on 34th street. We had a private room and all the students and professors were there. I had never done karaoke before so I didn’t know what to expect. I ended up singing four songs; Sweet Caroline, Afternoon Delight, Car Radio, and Forever (the Lil Wayne part). I was told my rendition of Car Radio was top 10 of all time from the program. Don’t want to brag about being such a good singer, but it seems I’m such a good singer.

Thursday I woke up and did not want to clean. I was strictly against it so I chose to go for a stroll in Central Park. As I walked about I decided I was going to go to the Central Park Zoo. I saw a Red Panda, a Snow Leopard, Penguins, a sea lion, and a seal. It was a fun trip and I am glad I did it, even though my feet hurt. I then went home and did my laundry, my final thing of laundry in New York. Don’t cry. I watched Hacksaw Ridge, which I had seen before but wanted to watch it again. That night Andy and I went and saw the Play That Goes Wrong. It’s a normal play, but it goes wrong and is funny.

Friday was spent cleaning. I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned. I also packed all my things. I took a couple boxes to UPS by foot, which means I carried them to the subway, held them while we rode the subway, and then walked the couple blocks to the store. I was exhausted by the time I got there and could not imagine carrying the much larger computer box on trip 2. I ended up ordering a Uber for the computer transport. Eventually jenny came and checked off our apartment as ready to check out. We then hiked out to the Hot Pot place again for our final meal as a group. It was me, Andy, Braden, Corina, and her mom. They all liked it and I got to pretend like I knew what was happening. That night Andy and I watched another episode of Midnight Mass.

And then Saturday was a day of travel. I woke up early, got some breakfast and then went off to the airport. I had to be sneaky about the flight as the entire week Andy had to pretend like we weren’t leaving for another couple days so that he could surprise his girlfriend, Morgan, with a proposal on Sunday. My father picked me up from the airport and took me to eat dinner at a hibachi place, but we didn’t eat at the hibachi grill. We then drove home and I spent the rest of the day with my brother and mother. We ended up just talking and then watching Cloverfield, which I had been wanting to watch with my knowledge of New York. It was cool to see all the places I knew.

And now my first full day in Texas and it was spent with my mom. We went to church at highland together, then I cooked us steaks for lunch. We went and saw the new Dr. Strange, which was TERRIBLE. They also copied 0.5: Chris’ Livingroom in their climax. We then went to a jewelry place with her followed by getting sushi from HEB to eat while watching Nathan For You. I’m pretty tired for some reason so I think it’s about time for bed. So yeah, welcome back to Waco, I plan on putting a “best-of” blog for New York up soon this week so be on the lookout for that. See Ya!
