Blog 25: Week of 05/01/22
I walked 15 miles yesterday. This is a new personal record. I accomplished 35,000+ steps in one day and my feet HURT. The last two miles felt like stepping on glass all the way as we went. I also, according to my watch, burnt 3,000 calories. I don’t know if this is a personal record stretching back to my football days, but I feel like it is.
Oh, also I finished my internship. So a big week all in all. The walk and the internship. I am so happy to be done with that internship. It was good and I enjoyed it plenty, but it was a lot of reading and researching, which is not what I expected the internship to be. On Monday, my last day in-office, they got me donuts. I was surprised to be honest as I thought I was going to have to remind them that I was not returning. But they remembered and even got me donuts, gonna make me cry just thinking about it. But yes, it was my last week. I have no recollection of what I did Monday besides work. I know we didn’t have class, so I don’t know what I did instead. maybe I did homework or something. Oh! I watched If Beale Street Could Talk and then wrote a paper about it. Tuesday I did laundry and worked out. Then I did some homework before watching Sunday in the Park with George. This is Andy’s favorite play so he’s been bugging me to watch it for a while. I then had a call with Garrett about our next Number series short film. We had a fun conversation but didn’t get too far in the planning process. Wednesday was a work from home day. That night we had an extra credit presentation about a reading from this semester. I talked about Gladstone, which is a piece about a funeral director doing the funeral for his father. That night, that night after the presentation was crazy.
Andy, Corina, and I went to the How I Met Your Mother bar, the one its based off, to celebrate Andy finishing his thesis. We walked in and asked for a table, they told us “just a minute” and then went to get one ready. As we waited a VERY drunk man came in and claimed “im not drunk, the other bar said i was drunk.” He was, in fact, drunk. They let him sit at the bar. All of a sudden a loud tumbling noise occurred, it was behind us. We turned and looked at the stairs. After we turned two people landed at the bottom of the stairway. They were intertwined like a pretzel; butts in the air, legs and arms sprawled, and slow to get up. They stayed in that position for a while. They eventually untangled and got to their feet. They were also drunk, but they may have also been concussed. As someone who has fallen down the stairs, I know they were in pretty bad pain. As they stood there getting their bearings the other drunk guy came up, put his arms around both of the, pulled them in and said “you guys definitely broke somethings!” This made the bartender finally kick him out. “Get out!” “what??” “get out!” “oh this is bullshit! F*ck YOU!” he then staggered towards the door, but made a pitstop at Andy, “what are YOU looking at” no response “I’ll fight you!” The bartender shouted for him to leave and he started walking again, past me and Corina. I looked at Andy and laughed, this caused the man to come back to me, but he looked at me, then went back to Andy “What’s so funny” “get out of here!” He finally left, but left through a door that was not meant to open. Off he went to the next bar, ready to terrorize a new group on a lovely Wednesday night. The drunk couple finally sat at a booth and were given waters as the server talked to them. We still stood there. Eventually we got a table and had our meal, but the show was always going to be better than the dinner.
Thursday was another day of doing busy work and nothing much else. At night the director of Sound of Metal came and talked to us. This was really neat to talk to an Oscar winning director and see his passion for his film. Afterwards I watched the NFL draft. That happened the entire weekend, so I was constantly checking on it. Friday was final day of my work, but I didn’t do a lot. That night Hardin got into town so I went and saw her. I picked her up at Port A and then went to Rudy’s Bar and Grill where you can get a $3 beer with a free hotdog. It was pretty packed, but we ended up getting a table and hanging out. Then we met up with Anna at Times Square. It was a nice night.
Saturday was the day of the Walk. Woke up at 7:00am to leave by 8:00 am to be at the walk by 9:00 am. We then walked and walked and walked. At lunch I met up with Jack and Andrew, which was nice. We had a good conversation with lots of laughs. I then met back up with the walking group to finish it out. It was hard, but we did it.
I slept well last night, put my feet up and slept. Now its sunday and I just revised my final paper. Now the last school I ever have is my final on Wednesday night. Wish me luck. I think I’m going to eat some Indian food tonight, so Bye Bye Birdie!
