Blog 22 part 2: Week of 04/10/22
And now for my first ever part 2! I wonder if some day I will have a part 3??? It does seem rather unlikely that that will happen, but truly you never know. Perhaps I will purposely do a part 3, 4, 5, 6, and maybe, just maybe a part 7. Some week that’s crazy busy I’ll do a daily blog. But that would make me even busier, so probably not. Oh well, let’s talk about the Waco part of this week.
It starts early morning on Thursday, all the way back in New York. I woke up at 7:00 AM and started getting ready to go to the airport. I got breakfast and was on my way by 8:00 because my flight was at 10:00 and it was a 30 minute travel to the airport. As you know, if you read part 1 first, my flight was cancelled and then changed to American, but they wouldn’t let me check-in online and would not give me any information about the flight other than the departure time. So I went to Terminal A, which is where Spirit airlines is located to find out information about my flight. I stood in their information line for about 10 minutes just for them to act confused on why I was there and send me to Terminal B which is where American is. I had to take the “free airport shuttle” to get there which was just a bus. At DFW they have the sky train thing, but at LGA they have a bus where the bus driver takes a smoke break with all his passengers waiting. Terminals B-D were about two miles away. We also were not in any hurry it seemed as well as went to D first, then C, then finally B. That bus ride took an extra 15 minutes. Then I had to go to their customer service to get my ticket. They also acted like I was dumb. By now it was about 9:10 and the flight stops boarding at 9:45. The lady told me the gate was about 15 minutes away so I “better hurry through security.” I don’t know how she expected me to “hurry through security,” if there is anyone who does not care about moving swiftly it is airport security. I got in line and it seemed to be moving pretty quickly. The whole line was split into three main sections. A pre-line (where I was), the TSA Pre-check line, and then the normal people line. The pre-line was sending half the line to normal and half to the very empty pre-check, I got sent to the normal. It snaked back and forth very long lines for 7 rows. I was in row 7 and slowly, slowly made my way through each of the lines. 9:20 came and went, 9:30 came and went and I was only in row 3, so I had about half way to go and no way was I going to make it. I pleaded with a lady that worked there my case, that my flight was going to end boarding in 15 minutes, and he graciously let me into a shorter line. This line, while shorter, had some of the slowest people in the entire world in it. There was a lady with kids, and two old ladies in wheel chairs. All three of these people were faster than the other slow people in line. At 9:36 I finally got through the security and had to wait for my bag and shoes to come through the conveyer belt, but my bag got pulled for further inspection. I had forgotten to take my laptop out of it. So they put it back into the conveyer belt. The lady sauntered back there and slowly put it on the conveyer. Finally it came through, clean. I grabbed it and slid the laptop into my bag. It was 9:43. Off I went. I ran through LGA like I’ve never run before. All those movies where the people run through the airport really got it right, because I was zoomin. I got to gate 26 at 9:46, the gates were closed and the people where gone. I was breathing heavy as I felt fear. I looked at my ticket in shame and realized that the gate was 28, not 26. I ran over to 28 and was the last person in as they shut the door to the plane. I had a middle seat which did not help the fact that I just sprinted through an airport carrying a bag, but I made it. Then we sat on the runway for about 20 minutes. So yeah, a stressful day on Thursday. I also almost missed my connecting flight due to those 20 minutes on the runway, but I made it. My father picked me up at DFW and off we went to Waco, in a rush, because I had a surprise meeting with my 7:37 boys. A couple weeks prior I planned with Harrison and Joey to get all the guys together on that Thursday without telling them. I got to Waco at about 6:30 and had to rush to get supplies ready for a campfire with hotdogs and s’mores. But finally, 7:30 came around and it was great! I got to hang out with all of them and talk and share stories. A lot can happen in 3 months so there was plenty to go around. We were out there until 10:00 or so and it was great.
Friday I woke up early and went to breakfast with a couple of them just so we could have a bit more time to hang out and I really wanted Jalisco’s. After that I had a lot of errands to run in order to be ready for the wedding/rehearsal dinner that night. Around 4:00 I took off on the 2.5 hour drive to the rehearsal dinner. It was nice to drive again, it was a long drive, but I was just jamming to music in the car. One of the things I missed the most was music in my car. I got there and quickly was surrounded by some really good camp friends of mine, Joey, Jared, Jacob, Jaclyn, and Mellen. Lots of J names at this wedding, and Mellen. It was good food with good company, lots of laughs. We also did wedding speeches during this and I decided to give my first ever wedding speech, which went fine. I got people to laugh and talked about Jaclyn always being kind and Jacob’s focus on God. That night the five guys in the grooms party had a house together and we hung out, had some drinks, and talked. We shared stories and laughed until nearly 2 am.
Saturday we woke up and had no hot water so we took freezing cold showers, really helped us wake up I suppose. The last shower of Jacob’s single life. We then had a couple hours to kill so we got breakfast a a local diner before heading to a coffee shop to play Apples to Apples, the perfect pre-wedding game. I’ve always been bad at those games, I don’t know why. It was also perfect weather, especially after being in New York’s cold weather. We drove to the venue and got there a bit early so we played cornhole that was too far apart, but that added to the fun. There was a light breeze and a perfect 68 degree day. Also, I won cornhole, so an even better day. Then we got ready and took some pictures, don’t ask if I messed one of the pictures up. It was a beautiful wedding and I’m very happy for them. We had some dancing and food then blew bubbles as they left and all was over. I drove home and went to bed, as I was very tired. Today I woke up, and started on the blog as I waited for my laundry. My mother made me some delicious blueberry muffins so that was nice. She sat next to me as I typed. Lovely. Then I went to church and got to see my FBCW friends like Meredith, Bob, and Terri. Now I’m back at my mom’s house finishing this blog and my flight back to NY to canceled. DO NOT FLY SPIRIT! I will not be flying Spirit ever again. Maybe one more because they are giving me refund money, but then NEVER AGAIN!
That’s all for now, I guess we will see if I can fly today or not, but that will be in next weeks blog because now I want to spend time with my Mom. Bye Bye!
