Blog 20: Week of 03/27/22

I am so sick of school. There is nothing I want to do more than graduate and be finished with it. Nothing insane happened, just 18 years of school taking a toll. I do only have five more weeks of college left. That’s pretty crazy. In those five weeks I have a 15 page paper, an annotated bibliography, two final exams, and plenty, plenty reading. So it’s not some free swim through the end, but none the less, it is the end.

Now, what did I do this week? That’s a lovely question! Monday was a normal work and school day packed to the brim with, you guessed it, school and work.

Okay, so Tuesday was a pretty neat day. I can’t believe I almost forgot about this whole experience as i was writing this blog. I kinda just thought it was a normal “laundry, groceries, and homework” Tuesday, but no, it was not. I did do laundry and get groceries, but I also talked to Jimmy Fallon. You know that famous guy, Jimmy Fallon? Yeah, we chopped it up together, just laughing, having fun. So, here’s the story. Before coming to New York me and Corina decided, over DM, that we would try to go to SNL and Jimmy Fallon. To get in the SNL audience you have to camp out Friday night to hopefully be early enough in the line to hopefully get a lottery ticket if someone doesn’t show up. With it being so cold here, we opted for just trying for JF. For Jimmy you apply online by filling out when you could go and why you want to go, then they choose randomly a couple people from that application. So it’s also a lottery system, but you don’t have to camp out over night. On my “why do you want to come” section I wrote “I’ve watched Jimmy Fallon for years and it’s been a dream of mine to get to be a part of the audience, now I’ve moved to New York and this is the best chance I will ever have to be on the show. It would be a dream come true… Etc…” To be honest, I have never watched Jimmy Fallon before, and I don’t particularly like him. But I was chosen to come to the show, and I could bring two friends. Andy and Corina. We went and sat around for a couple hours waiting to be called into the studio. They taught us to “go all out” and “clap and cheer” and made sure we knew “positive vibes only” so no asking for autographs, which I guess is a negative vibe. They then had a warm-up comedian come out and do some crowd work, which was funny, but the crowd was so dry. I felt bad for him with how dry the crowd was. Then he started talking to a girl in front of me, which then included me and her being set up in order for her to get a green card through marriage. then… CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP… JIMMY FALLON CAME ONTO THE STAGE!!! WHOOO!

He did his little monologue and then talked about march madness. He then asked the audience how our bracket was and I was the only person who responded. I thought we were all supposed to respond, but nope, just me. “bad!” I said. He laughed and asked “Are you close?” “no, not at all!” So boom, already chumming it up with the big JF. A bit later he had a segment called WeTweet where he would show a couple silly tweets and the audience got to vote on which tweet they wanted Jimmy to tweet. We got little clickers with thumbs up and thumbs down on them. I thought it would be funny to point the clicker at Jimmy when I voted as if it were a remote control. I did it to make Andy and Corina laugh, but then he commented about it. When he commented about it I just knew I had to do it again. “that one guy keeps pointing the clicker at me, yeah, you in the white.” “It’s not working!” “what do you mean it’s not working?” “I don’t know!” so yeah, pretty darn famous. I really thought I was going to be in trouble. When we went to commercial break Jimmy went over to the director and talked quietly to them. He was either said “get him outta here.” or “keep that in.” and I didn’t know which one. Turns out it was “Keep that in.” Another insider tip, if you watch the musical performance, at the very beginning before the singing there is a well timed YELL. Yep, that was me too. That night we watched and waited to see if I would make the final cut, and each one of my audio takes made it in. Very fun watch of Jimmy Fallon, and I now have more respect for Jimmy.

Wednesday was school and work. Boring, especially when it’s compared to Tuesday. Thursday I went deep into Queens to find a JC Penny so I could figure out what suit size I am for the wedding. It took about 3 hours, long trip. I also was not feeling well Thursday, had a sickness coming on. Very annoying to be getting sick so often. Thanks a lot masks and vaccines. <- not political. When I got home I fell asleep. That night I think I watched basketball then went back to bed. Friday I did a half day at work before going to the Native American Museum for class credit. It was pretty neat and a great excuse to get out of work. When I got home, I slept for 4 hours. I woke up, at dinner, and went back to bed. So I guess I was more sick than I thought. Saturday I spent the day doing homework and watching Invincible on Amazon prime. That night a group of us watched Lost in Translation, which I didn’t like, and then we played some board games.

Now it’s Sunday. I am trying to do homework, but I am not doing well on actually doing the homework. Tonight we are having a watch party with the Oscars which is pretty exciting. I don’t usually care about the oscars, but I watched a good amount of the movies this time around, so I have some stakes riding on it. Now I’m going to try to finish this darn homework. So, see ya!
