Blog 12: Week of 01/30/22

It’s kinda weird that it’s only been two weeks in New York. It feels like a lot longer. However this weekend flew by. Also getting to this blog pretty late at night. It’s 9:20 pm at the moment on Sunday and I would love to be asleep right now. Andy and I just had quite the adventure, I will explain it in a way that makes sense to me. Buckle up as there is some backstory to this one. Wednesday was my first work from home day with my internship so I stayed here in the apartment. I have this wobbly desk and a chair that I fear will break at any moment. Its a wooden dining room chair that I dragged to my room to use at the desk. Well, after sitting in the chair from 9:00am-6:00pm my back and tailbone were killing me. This is especially true because a couple years ago I broke my back and about 1 year ago I broke my tailbone. I ended the day in a lot of pain. I then decided to find a better chair. NY is expensive so off to facebook marketplace I went in hopes of finding a chair. I found a good one for $40 so I messaged the person to see if I could pick it up Thursday before my next work from home day (Friday). She said she was busy but could get it to me Friday, I was busy all day so I offered saturday, she was busy saturday so she offered sunday. I was busy sunday, but I said “oh well, Sunday it is.” We agreed to 1:00 Sunday. Sunday came and I checked to see if 1:00 was still good and she said no, how bout 6:00. I told her I would come after the Chiefs Bengals game, which went into overtime. That meant that I left the apartment at like 6:20. It was a 30 minute train ride, or at least it was supposed to. We got to the station and waited probably 10 minutes for the train so already were going to be late. Then the train was SO slow, like walking speed or less. We then had to transfer onto the L train which was also late and slow. It was also PACKED. Like butts to butts on it. Finally we got to the chair at like 7:20, so it doubled the travel time expected. The girl was upset, I don’t care because I had to travel an hour to get the chair and she just went downstairs. We were hungry so we stopped by Tony’s Pizza, rated 7.9 by Dave Portney. We ate our slices as we went to the subway. Took a bit before the L train showed up. Ate a slice on the subway, felt like a true New Yorker. Then we transitioned to the N. But. The N took probably 35 minutes to show up. It was absurd. Such a long wait. We watched the Q train make a full circle before the N ever showed up. Finally we got on it and rode our 20 minute train ride home. The whole experience took 2 hours and a bit. It was supposed to take 1. And if I had a car it would’ve been 30 minutes. I miss my car.

So, now the rest of the week. Monday was the first day of the Internship. I woke up at 7:30 and was so tired. I rolled out of bed and sat on my toilet questioning my life’s choices waiting for the shower to warm up. I then went to the train to get to work. Again, the N train was slow. I’m starting to dislike the N train. The first day at work was pretty lame. My boss just gave me a lot of documents to read. A bunch of past projects that they had done, some sizzle reels of current projects. The coolest thing they gave me was a 134 page document about what the TV networks are looking for. They let me out of work a bit early, which is good because I would not have had much time to eat dinner before class. Well, class isn’t the right word. We went and watched Drive My Car instead. It was a great movie but it was long, like 3 hours long. It was also foreign so it was pretty darn hard to keep awake, but I really enjoyed it. I managed to stay awake, #proud. Tuesday was a day off, I played RCT2 and watched a movie. I also did homework, had a meeting, and read part of a book. Wednesday was the work from home day previously mentioned. I also had class that night. That one was way harder to stay awake for, much harder than 3 hours of foreign language movie. Thursday, at this moment I don’t remember a lot about Thursday. Probably pretty close to Tuesday’s schedule. Friday was another WFH day. We had a small development meeting that was pretty fun. I wanted to speak up, but it felt too soon. I was assigned multiple research projects. I finished one that was gathering a list of Spanish speaking documentary directors. It was rather difficult finding them mainly due to the fact that I don’t speak Spanish. That night as a class we all went and listened to some irish poetry guy. He talked about conflict and being gay. Fun stuff.

Friday night we had game night. Better turn out this time, but still not great. We played One Night Werewolf and BEANS. Played games till around midnight. Saturday a small group of us went out. It had snowed all night so we had probably a foot of snow. We went on a lovely hike in Central Park and took some photos. Then we went to a mall. Holy crap, the mall was expensive. Joggers for $130 type expensive. There was however a H&M with joggers for $17, so I bought some. That night we had a game night part two featuring BEANS and phase 10. Afterwards Braden and I went out for drinks. Pretty fun day, lots of stuff done and time flew by.

So here we are, Sunday night watching The Amazing Spiderman 2. Why you ask, good question, the stunt-coordinator is coming to talk to our class on Tuesday. I’m also really tired, so I hope I sleep well and get to work on time. Bye Bye!
