Blog 1: Week of 11/14/21

This is my first attempt of a blog. Well, that’s only partly true. Back during the early days of quarantine I started a Newsletter for my fraternity as a way to try and keep us connected when we couldn’t see each other. That situation is what made me realize I wanted to do my own blog. I also have lived a life up to this point that does not have a ton of weekly excitement, but with the move to New York coming up I expect that to change. Right now, as I write, it is a Friday night. Donovan, my roommate, is watching Star Wars with his girlfriend. It’s a good life, simple, but good. I currently do not have a confirmed internship for when I go to NY. I have applied to about 7. I haven’t even heard back from most of them, I really need to follow up with them.

To fill in a bit about my Waco life I will describe some of the things I do here. First, I work with a group of about 25 tenth graders through First Woodway. I have been with them my entirety of College, so since they were seventh graders. They’re all growing up and half of them can even drive. We meet weekly on Sunday night every week for four years. I love them, all of them except one. I will never say which, but I assume at least one of them will read this and tell the rest about what I said. Now that they can drive we have also started meeting Tuesday afternoon’s to do homework and hangout. We also meet for breakfast on Thursday’s. It’s always super early when we meet because it has to be before they’re school so it’s like a 7:00 am breakfast. My first class on Thursdays is at 12:30 pm. Lastly we meet for dinner on Sunday before our official meeting. Of course, none of this is required and just who ever wants to show up shows up. I also work with First Woodway as an intern for them. I have worked there for nearly a year and a half. My main job is to write and direct weekly skits. First Woodway youth puts on a Wednesday youth program called Wednesday Night Live (WNL). It starts with a high energy opening song, followed by the skit. After that a student shares a short message about what they have been learning in their faith. We then have worship to finally end in a sermon/message from our youth pastors. Growing up in Waco, WNL was the thing that got me into First Woodway. I also got to do skits when I was in high school so now getting to be the guy that writes them is so exciting. I love the Skit Team.

Additionally I am one week away from filming my next short film: Spaced. I am rather nervous as I want it to be good. I think it’s normal to be nervous for things you want to be good, if not maybe I should see a doctor. I just ordered the last of my props on Amazon in hopes that they get here in the next four days. I also have yet to meet any of my cast members (except one). The short film is a coming of age love story centered around Ryan and his imaginary friend Jack. Jack is also a child, which means the actor who plays Jack will be a child, which means I will have to direct a child in acting. But this is no ones fault but my own as I wrote the short. I feel unprepared for filming, but I always do so I think I’m in a good place. Maybe by the time you are reading this the video is up on the website, so if it is, let me know what you think about it!

Okay, I think that’s what I’ll write about this week. It ended up being more than I expected and a lot easier than I expected. Hopefully most weeks the Blogs will be easy. I guess we will see. Bye!
