Blog 15: Week of 02/20/22
Oh, hey there! Been a minute, huh? It was a pretty decent week out here in the big NY. Most of the way pretty good at least, I have not been feeling 100%. I have some things on my tongue that hurt and my ears feel weird. I feel like I am on the verge of being sick, but my plan is just to ignore it until it goes away. Enough about me though, let’s talk about me. Is this blog self-centered? I mean, the whole point of this blog is so people (and myself) can keep up with me. I don’t have time to call everyone and update them all the time, so it is good for that. On top of that, I can go back and re-read all these as a way to remanence on my life. So, sure, this is self-centered, but that’s the whole point.
So to start, Monday. Monday was valentine’s day as well as the day after the super bowl, these two things meant that my work decided to take a Work From Home day. Working from home is nice and all, but I do need those days of going into the office to feel like I am more than just a backburner afterthought. I will say though, this was the best week of internship so far. Monday we had a company meeting during which we go over the progress of all the projects that are being worked on. One of those is a partnership with the Spy Museum, trying to make a spy related show. After discussing their current ideas our president decided that they were not good enough so he assigned the team to take a day to prepare new concepts. I was able to come up with three show concepts, each of which I would enjoy watching. On Wednesday we had a zoom call about the ideas and I was able to pitch my ideas. One of them, a spy mission in the form of a true crime show, was already pitched by the time I could pitch. One of my ideas, however, I was able to pitch. It’s basically in the same genre that Hell’s Kitchen is, but mixed with Forged in Fire. Basically gather a bunch of engineers, prop designers, and material designers and have them create bond-like gadgets for spies. The team really liked it and ended up pitching it to the Spy Museum who also liked it, but had some issues. So Friday they told me to take some more time on the idea and come up with some alternative show ideas similar to that to re-pitch. So that was cool, and I am proud that my first idea I got to ever pitch was well received. The second good thing to happen was a research project I was assigned. We are partnering with a world renowned Casino cheater. I was tasked with finding the worlds biggest casino scams that fit his skill set. I put together a list of those as well as famous movies with scamming in casinos and street level card scams. The team liked the research so I have been invited to a call with the team in charge of creative development with it. I don’t know what that will entail, but I am excited. I had other work that I also did, but I don’t care enough to mention it.
I am just now realizing this was a stellar week, only being hampered by not feeling great. Tuesday was a day off, I spent most of it cleaning the apartment and doing laundry. I then finally sat down to watch Little Miss Sunshine, a movie I have been meaning to watch for months. After exactly one minute I paused it. The opening credits inspired me to write a new film. I rushed to my computer, made an outline and typed up about 7 pages of the idea. I did not want to be influenced by the movie and I knew if I wrote it before I watched the movie then I could not plagiarize their work. The concept is about a 17 year old who failed a suicide attempt and is now going to Christmas with his extended family. I love the idea of seeing how different people interact with the subject matter.
Wednesday night instead of having class we went and saw a Broadway show. We got to see Company, which was extremely enjoyable. Andy was very excited as soon as he heard we were watching a Sondheim show. Everyone else was just excited that we were missing class. After the musical a couple of us went into Time Square to eat. It was midnight in Time Square and all the billboards changed colors and it was pretty cool. Thursday was another off day, I don’t remember a bulk of the day, but that night we had a writing session put on with Jenny. It was pretty fun.
Friday was work most of the day, but then that night I went out with the Sigma Chi guys that are in New York. There’s six of us, plus one, but we haven’t seen or heard from him. We went to this nice, nice place and I ordered duck. It was lovely $35 duck. I would order it again if I had another $35. The other guys bought lots of drinks, I bought one. I wish I had more money to spend, but it just isn’t my hand that I have drawn. Saturday our class went to the Museum of Moving Images, which was fine. It was the most fun museum so far. Afterwards we all ate and then went to JackAss Forever. JF was terrible. I haven’t disliked a movie as much as that one in a long time. To end out the week Andy, Corina, and myself played some board games and that was it.
All in all a good week. I need to do other homework so I am going to end the blog here. I’ve been typing this for way too long at this point. See ya!
